Regarding the Gacha Policy Change

Monday, August 2nd, 2021

We’ve had some questions regarding Linden Labs deciding to make a policy change regarding gacha (read the original LL blog post here) and we wanted to clarify our position.

Bloodlines and Legends do not rely greatly on gacha mechanics. Where we have done gacha sales for Rare Textures and a few mesh items sets, our plans for the future will be to simply sell those items individually for limited time periods, so that they may still be collectible and retain some rarity but not violate the new SL policies regarding gacha.

We understand this LL policy change does affect some other creators and resellers greatly, and we empathize and hope that they are able to make smooth adjustments to the new way of things. Over the last 13 years we’ve watched several large sweeping changes come to SL, and after a brief period of confusion and adjustment, things generally work out and the economy continues on.

We look forward to riding out the changes and releasing mesh items, game updates and rare textures for many years to come!

Determined Update

Tuesday, April 20th, 2021

We are making a minor update to the Determined achievement based on feedback that we’ve received from the Bloodlines community. As it stands, if you stop pursuing this achievement and miss a day, but never check in again, your count will be maintained in the rankings. We are updating this achievement so that if a day is missed, counts are reset at midnight SL time instead of on a new checkin where more than a day has passed. This means that any players no longer pursuing this achievement that have counts greater than 1 day will be reset to 0 days in the rankings. It also means that if you miss a day, your count will be reset at the midnight following that day, and not on a later day when you check in after the missed day. Any level badges achieved will be maintained, just like always. We think that this suggestion from the community makes the rankings more fair because they will only reflect the players currently pursuing the achievement.

3 New Quests + Flint Tools

Wednesday, March 24th, 2021

We added 3 new quests to the “Novice” flyer on the Notice Board in the Mortal Crossroads: Runar’s Rumblings, Swirling Supplies and Tool Troubles. These are relatively easy quests that also help teach a few concepts or interactions in Legends. They are repeatable (at either 24 or 48 hour intervals) and are included in the Legends War now.

Another issue presented to us by users was the fact that attaining a first set of Iron Tools was an ordeal for a new player. We attempted to partially remedy this by introducing a cheaper set of Flint Tools. These tools cost about half as much as the Iron version, but also have half the Durability (50 total) and also do not harvest all the upper level resources that the metal tools do. Hopefully however they’ll be useful for a player just starting out.

Flint Adjusments + New Ingot:

As a result we had to make Flint Bricks (basically ingots) and to make those be easy enough to access for lower level players, we had to make an adjustment to the Flint resource.

To make Flint Tools easily repairable, we needed Flint to be a 1000 / Common level resource. It previously was at 350 / Rare however, and we realize that decimating the value by 2/3 would probably make some of you unhappy. So, we compromised by renaming the current Flint resource to “Slate” (keeping the 350 value) and creating a new Flint resource that is 1000 / Common, which can be mined on the Granite Mine.

We realize this may not be a totally perfect solution, but we did our best to preserve the resource wealth of current users while still adding this accessibility for new players.

We also are adding a “Flint Arrowhead” resource to the Level 1 map so that players can smelt those into Flint Bricks if they wish.

Other Quest Adjustments:

Due to sometimes challenging overlaps between quests like Flyer Flier and all the other quests that intersect with Olaf, we made the call to have a few quests now start with items nearby the NPC rather than right on them. So for example, Flyer Flier now can be started by going to touch the “Help Wanted” sign in Olaf’s. Secret Society now starts by touching an Elder Emblem sitting on a table next to Baron Kinross, and the Elusive Amulet starts by touching a framed picture of an Elder Amulet that Patrick Sawyer has inside his stall.

If this solution works for people, we might do some more of this over time so that you don’t get quite so many blue menu options when you run into certain busy NPCs.

Legends Updates: Updated Tower Training + Tutorial HUD

Wednesday, March 24th, 2021

In an effort to make the intro to the game smoother for new players, we did an overhaul of the Crossroads Tower Training quest. There are several new steps, teaching a wider range of things (crafting, spending coins, using the Compass, etc.) and there’s a new ingredient (Bubblegum Mushrooms) and a new crafting recipe (Minor Stamina Potion) presented in the quest. The potion recipe can be learned at the Research Station as well.

We also added a Tutorial HUD to the Legends crate. The Tutorial HUD has moving gifs that illustrate various operations of the HUD and help guide the path through the training quest.

We also moved the freebie mesh rewards (and updated / added to them) to a reward box delivery at the end of the Wizard Training quest.

The new Tutorial completes by sending the adventurer down to the new Crossroads Notice Board at the base of the tower. This board has most of the Midlands quests on it, divided up into “Novice”, “Middling”, and “Advanced” (Expert is there but no quests on it yet).

Try the board out! In addition to making it clear where to find quests, it vends the Quest Flyer to show the rewards. While we do want to still have some quests that people can just ‘find’ in the RP areas, it seemed a good idea especially at Crossroads to give an easier path for new players to find things to engage with.

If you’d like to get the HUD and check it out, you can redeliver your Legends HUD (or other BL race HUD) and it should be in the Legends HUD crate.

We’ve also opened up the Crossroads Tower Training quest for repeats until the end of the week, so if you’d like to be informed so that you can explain it to new players or family members, give it a try!

*Note: as a result of the new Notice Board however, the Rumor Mill quest is a bit obsolete. We’re going to take that quest down temporarily and update it with some new hints and quests, and then will re-release that likely around the first week of April. Thanks for your patience.

Upcoming Achievements Changes

Monday, March 1st, 2021

Update 4/2/21: We have heard a lot of feedback from the community that the new Detective / Investigator Achievement is too difficult, when trying to find another player of a very specific race / status. We have updated the possible targets to be limited only to a given race, not a specific status. This should make this achievement much more doable, and we hope less frustrating.

Update 3/26/21: Because of the updates in version 5 of the Haunts, the current Voyager / World Travels achievement will be retired to a Legacy Achievement and replaced with Voyager 2 / World Travels 2, which will work identically. Retired achievements are now being referred to as Legacy Achievements, a previous version of this post referred to them as Honors.

Original post follows:

The following changes to Bloodlines achievements will start on 4/1/2021:

  1. All of the Tempter / Summoner achievements (a total of 10 achievements) will be retired and become Legacy Achievements. See below for an explanation of what this means.
  2. Detective / Investigator will also be retired and become a Legacy Achievement. It will be replaced with Detective 2 / Investigator 2. In order to earn counts of Detective 2 / Investigator 2, you will need to find and scan players with certain statuses and races in a certain order. For example, your first target may be to scan someone who is a vampire. Once you find and scan a vampire, you’ll get a message letting you know what your next target is. It may say that you need to find and scan an Archangel, and once you find and scan one, you’ll get your next target.
  3. In order to count towards Voyager / World Travels, all Haunts will need to be updated to Version 5. Soon we will be releasing and auto-distributing an updater box that you can use to update your Haunts to version 5. You should have plenty of time to update your Haunts before the change on 4/1. After 4/1, version 4 and earlier Haunts will still work fine, but if they are checked by your visitors, they won’t count towards the Voyager / World Travels achievement for that visitor.

Legacy Achievements are old achievements that can no longer be earned. So, if you have earned badges on Detective, Investigator, Voyager, World Travels, or any of the Tempter / Summoner achievements, those badges will be permanently moved to the Legacy Achievements section of your profile on 4/1. This will change the total number of achievements that it is possible to get, so you will see the top number of possible achievements drop to 79.

Why are we making these changes?

In short, because the level of exploitation of these achievements is so egregious that they are essentially meaningless. We’ve observed that the challenges of these achievements are being circumvented by the use of large numbers of alts. We’ve tried various measures to try to suppress the incentive to use alts, but these have not been effective, and our last resort is just to retire the achievements. We apologize to everyone who made honest attempts at doing these achievements.

Legends Updates

NEW MESH CRAFTING + NEW DEFAULT RESOURCES & RECIPES
———————————————————————————————–

We added a new mesh crafting recipe, “Gift Boxes #1”, which can be learned about a the Research Station.

To build it we also opened up some new default recipes on the Paper Press and Tincture Table:

– Fine Cardboard
– Wrapping Paper
– Straw Paper
– Gift Ribbon
– Palm Wax

WIZARD TOWER BACK DOORS
———————————————–
We added ‘back door’ TP shells to the bases of all the wizard towers. Now if you’d like to craft a wand but don’t want to deal with climbing stairs, you can touch one of these shells (usually somewhere outside the tower by the ground or on a wall) and it will zip you right up to the top:

POCKET ADJUSTMENTS
————————————–

To create less confusion (and free up space in packs and chests) we’ve decided to make the pocket stack situation much more uniform. Unless something is money (Copper Coins, Tokens, etc.) or a Stamina Pack (Humanity Pod, Ichor Ember, etc.) then items should have a stack size of 25.

This means that dozens of resources will be more stackable (iron cauldrons, buckets, idols, figureheads, etc.) but also mean that a few resources came down in stack size (Dust, Holiday Cookies and Treats, etc.). We hope that having things a uniform 25 will create less confusion for players and our quest-writers going forward.

New Cooking Station Recipes

Monday, February 22nd, 2021

We’ve released a set of new Cooking Station recipes. These recipes do not deliver mesh items, but they do give back more % of stamina when they are consumed. These recipes are all sold in shops around the various 5 RP sims, just ring a vendor’s Service Bell and see if they have one you want!

Update for All-Time Legends Family Achievements

Thursday, January 28th, 2021

We wanted to let you all know about a change that we made with the way that the all-time Legends Achievements are tracked for families.

When we released Legends War at the beginning of January, we started tracking Legends Achievements by Family as well. Before January, we were just tracking Legends Achievements for individuals, for all time. With the release of Legends War, we added three new categories of tracking:

  1. Monthly individual stats for the Legends War monthly contest.
  2. Montly family stats for the Legends War monthly contest.
  3. All-time family stats.

Family achievements are recorded as the aggregate of the progress and levels of the family members. That is, the progress doesn’t accumulate to achieve the levels, the progress just accumulates, and the family gains a count on a level when an individual reaches that level. For example: if two people in one family each get 5 on an achievement that requires 10 for level 1, this progress won’t accumulate to win level 1 for the family. The family will just get a progress of 10. Then if they each get 5 more and both reach Level 1, then the family will have a progress of 20, and two instances of Level 1.

So, levels for monthly family achievements (for Legends War) were triggering when family members gained levels in the monthly counting, and levels for all-time family achievements were triggering when family members gained levels in the all-time counting. But, if family members had already gained levels in the all-time counting before family tracking started, there was no way to earn those levels again. It’s all-time, you can only earn them once. However, if you hadn’t gotten the achievements before and did them for the first time after we started recording family achievements, then you could earn them for your family. This caused a lot of confusion, because when looking at the stats, achievements were showing up in the monthly counting, but not in the all-time counting for members that had already earned the all-time levels before Legends War started.

This seemed unfair, and here is the solution that we have come up with for this: if you earn an achievement level in the monthly counting for Legends War, and your family isn’t marked as having that level earned in the all-time stats, it will set it as earned. This has been retroactively applied to the beginning of January from our logs. What this means is that any levels that you earned for your family in the monthly counting, should now also be earned for your family in the all-time counting.

If you have any questions about this, or anything still doesn’t look right in your stats, please create a support ticket. Thank you!

Research Stations

Monday, December 14th, 2020

We’re happy to announce that we’ve added a small new feature to Legends – the Research Station! At these stations you can look up recipes to learn where you can unlock them, and also sometimes just immediately learn new crafting recipes at the Research Station itself. We kicked the stations off by immediately adding a new recipe, the Rustic Cart, which can be immediately learned and then crafted at a Carpentry Counter.

For now the stations are just on our own sims, but if they prove useful we may eventually release them for home use. You can find them at our landing domes, as well as in our main stores next to the crafting station displays:

.:[ Vampire Islands ]:. ~ Bloodlines East

.:[ Mortal Crossroads ]:. ~ Bloodlines Midland

.:[ Lycan Woodlands ]:. ~ Bloodlines West

.:[ Haunted Domain ]:. ~ Bloodlines South

.:[ Angel Havens ]:. ~ Bloodlines North
