War Maintenance Tomorrow

February 23rd, 2011 by Lyle Maeterlinck

UPDATE 5:30am SL time: I expect bases should be back up again by 5:40am SL time.

UPDATE: The maintenance routines are taking longer than expected to run. Bases will be back up as soon as possible.

Tomorrow morning at 5:00 am SL time (GMT-8), we will be performing some maintenance on the Bloodlines: War system in order to increase the stability and reliability of the system. The website will remain up and your HUDs and weapons will still work, but Dominion bases will be down for approximately 15 minutes. They will be deactivated and locked when the maintenance begins, and approximately 15 minutes later, they will automatically reset. This applies only to version 2.0 Dominions. If you have a Dominion base that is older than version 2.0, please hand it to Lyle Maeterlinck in a folder with your name on it and we’ll send you back a 2.0 right away. Please feel free to comment or contact Lyle Maeterlinck in-world with any questions or concerns.

New Catalogue Vendors

February 7th, 2011 by Lyle Maeterlinck

We’re excited to announce the release of new catalogue vendors!

The new catalogue vendors have several highly requested features: the ability to gift, an included update kiosk, and an included key grabber. You can use the update terminal to get redelivery of any copyable product you’ve previously purchased from Liquid Designs.

There are 6 sets of vendors for you to set up if you wish: The Thirst, The Rage, War, Humans, Crypt Avatar, and Crypt Land.

To make the vendors fit with your store size and decor, you can change the size and background material of the vendor board cluster by clicking on the vendor board backing and using the menu. If you want to delete the backing board, you can, but before you delete it, you can use it to set the size of your vendors.

The old catalogue vendors will be disabled in about 30 days, so around March 7. This means that you have 30 days to replace your catalogue vendors if you want to keep selling Bloodlines items on your own land. All you need to do is delete your old catalogue vendors or take them into inventory, and replace them with the new vendors you can get at any Bloodlines store for 1 Linden. Bloodlines stores are located on Liquid Designs, Liquid East, Liquid South, Liquid Badlands, and Liquid Frontier.

If you have any questions about the new catalogue vendors, please contact Lyle Maeterlinck or Mars Bracken in-world.

Temporary Blood Issue

February 5th, 2011 by Lyle Maeterlinck

UPDATE: Everyone’s blood values should be correct at this point, if they aren’t, please let Lyle Maeterlinck know, and we will fix it.

UPDATE 1:02 pm: Everyone who has a status other than human should have a correct vital blood value. The only blood transfers we are unable to rebuild are from blood being sent through blood bonds. If you sent blood through a blood bond since yesterday morning, it may be rolled back and sent back to the original sender. If you believe your vital blood is not correct, please let Lyle Maeterlinck know.

UPDATE: There are still some issues with vital blood values being wrong. If your vital blood is wrong, please be patient, and it should be corrected shortly. In the meantime, you can continue playing the game normally. We assure you that your vital blood will be corrected.

Last night there was a database error where for a few hours, everyone’s blood was showing an incorrect value. We believe that the issue has been repaired. If you believe that your vital blood is not correct or if you have any other problems with your stats, please contact Lyle Maeterlinck in-world, and let him know what you believe your blood should be. As a result of this, the curse was canceled last night. We’re sorry for any inconvenience that this caused.

“Resident” Names Addressed

January 31st, 2011 by Mars Bracken

The way the Bloodlines vendors, website, and HUDs interact with the “Resident” surname have been updated today. When using vendors and attempting to gift to an avatar with the last name of Resident, you no longer have to type both names, you can type just their first user name and it should find them. On the website, we have scrubbed the last name “Resident” from all the profiles and listings, and searches can be made using just the first name of these new avatars. All HUD functions that deal with avatar names, IE lieging, can be done now by typing just the first name of any avatar with a Resident last name. In all these cases, however, typing both first and last names still works.

We hope that makes things a little easier to deal with, and makes our newer players feel less stigma towards their status as souls and Minions.

Bloodlines War: Losing Base Capture Points as a Result of Changing Commander

January 27th, 2011 by Lyle Maeterlinck

Some of you have come to us letting us know that you changed the commander of your war army, and as a result, you lost the base capture points that your army had earned. Right now, armies are linked to each individual commander, so that when a new commander takes over an existing army, the base capture points restart at zero, even if the army has the same name. In the next version of the War HUD, we will include a function to transfer your army to a new person, so that the base points will carry over.

In the mean time, we have had several requests to restore base points to armies that have switched commanders, with the membership of the army staying otherwise the same. So, if you have done this at any time in the past and lost your existing base points, I will restore your previous base capture points to your current army. Just leave a comment on this post with the army name, the previous commander, and the new commander, or send a notecard to Lyle Maeterlinck in-world, and I’ll restore your points. Thanks for your patience, and for playing war!

Bloodlines has no age requirements

January 12th, 2011 by Lyle Maeterlinck

We’ve received a few reports of “underage” people playing Bloodlines. We just wanted to clarify that we do not enforce a minimum age. Linden Labs has age requirements that you can review in section 3.1 of the second life terms of service. Everyone in Second Life must comply with the Second Life Terms of Service.

If you want to enforce a minimum real-life age to be in your clan, that’s up to you, but the official Bloodlines policy is that we welcome everyone who complies with the bloodlines terms of service, which has no age requirements.

Warning: Never Buy Blood or Lumen Containers on the SL Marketplace

January 5th, 2011 by Lyle Maeterlinck

All of the blood containers being sold on the Marketplace are fake or deactivated copies. If you buy a deactivated container on the Second Life Marketplace, we cannot help you. We do not sell official containers on the Marketplace, because as long as copy exploits still exist, we have to have containers rezzed and registered in-world before we can sell them. The only place to buy guaranteed blood containers is in the Bloodlines stores on the following regions:

Liquid Designs

Liquid East

Liquid Badlands

Liquid South

If you are anywhere else, you are buying a container that we cannot guarantee will work. ALWAYS test containers before you buy them. NEVER buy containers on the Marketplace, because it is not possible to test them first. Please see the procedure for how to test a blood container before you buy. Also, this is what to do if you have a deactivated container. Please be careful!

UPDATE: If you do end up buying a deactivated container on the SL Marketplace, please write a review on it saying that it is a scam, and warning others not to buy it. Also, please file an abuse report for fraud on the person who sold you the tank. You can get the name of the person who sold you the tank through your transaction history.

Updating Bloodlines For User Names and Display Names

December 20th, 2010 by Lyle Maeterlinck

A few months ago, Second Life changed the way new avatar names are selected.  Avatars select a ‘user name’ when signing up, then can select a different ‘display name’ that’s shown in world. Everyone who signed up before this new system was implemented has a ‘legacy name’, or a name with a traditional first and last name, and a user name of firstname.lastname. The ‘legacy name’ of new residents is their user name as the first name, and the last name ‘Resident’. Bloodlines currently uses legacy names for everyone, so all new players have the last name ‘Resident’ on the website. We realize the need to update the system in order to adapt to this new change, and we wanted to present some possible options for how we could address the problem and solicit feedback from everyone. Please post comments on this post with your feedback and concerns.

First, we wanted to say that while it’s possible for us to update the HUDs to collect current display names and display them on your profiles, because display names are subject to change, we won’t be using display names in any official sense. That is, you couldn’t set someone as your liege by using their display name, or transfer a soul by referring to that soul’s current display name. We need to stick to a naming system that doesn’t change.

The first possibility that we see in addressing this is just to filter out the last name ‘Resident’, and your name in Bloodlines will just become your Second Life user name. Names that show up on profiles and in the stats, including in bite lists, minion lists, and soul lists would all just be the avatar’s single user name.

The second possibility is to allow all new residents with the last name ‘Resident’ to choose a last name to use just for Bloodlines, so their first name would be their second life user name, and their last name would be their chosen Bloodlines last name. We could either set this up so that there is a limited number of possible Bloodlines last names, or just let people choose whatever last name they want. I think if we chose this option, we would have to have a way to indicate whether a name is a Second Life legacy name, like “Lyle Maeterlinck”, or whether a name is a Bloodlines name, like if someone named “Lyle Resident” made the Bloodlines name “Lyle Vampiros”. Also, if we did this option, we would have to find a way to ensure that no ‘Bloodlines name’ was the same as any existing Second Life legacy name, so that “Lyle Resident” would not be able to choose “Lyle Maeterlinck” as their Bloodlines name. This might be an argument for restricting possible Bloodlines last names to a list of names that don’t overlap with any Second Life legacy names, to prevent any possible confusion.

If you have any comments or questions, please leave a comment!

Updating Bloodlines War Lethality

December 20th, 2010 by Lyle Maeterlinck

We would like to address the possibility of  “gaming” the lethality ranking in Bloodlines War. It’s possible to gather many alts around a mine, and blow them up to artificially increase 1-hit kills. We are considering updating the lethality algorithm to put less weight on 1-hit kills from mines, and more weight on 1-hit kills achieved with other weapons, and we wanted to see what everyone thinks of this. Please leave your thoughts in the comments. Thanks!
